Why is an Annual Contact Lens Exam Needed?

Despite their ease of use, it is important to remember that contact lenses are a Class A Medical device, as defined by the FDA and require a prescription. As such, improper usage can lead to severe and potentially sight-threatening complications. Fortunately, many of these complications can be prevented through proper maintenance and annual contact lens eye health evaluations. For new wearers, we also offer training sessions where our friendly staff will guide you through every step of your contact lens journey.

Types of Contact Lenses

Soft Contact Lenses

Experience the latest breakthroughs in soft contact lenses! The most common type is known for comfort. They are made of soft, flexible plastics that allow oxygen to pass through to the cornea. Catering to diverse visual needs, they come in various prescription forms - be it spherical, toric (for astigmatism), colored, or multifocal for presbyopia. These are meant to be worn for a short time and then discarded. The most common schedule is daily, bi-weekly, or monthly.

Scleral

Experience the superior vision correction of scleral lenses, uniquely designed for even the most challenging vision issues. These larger-diameter lenses sit comfortably on the sclera (whites) of your eyes, providing unparalleled hydration and crisp, clear vision. Perfect for those with dry eye syndrome, our custom-designed scleral lenses ensure continuous comfort and lubrication. They are also a breakthrough for correcting irregular corneal shapes like keratoconus, offering precision vision correction unmatched by other lens types.

Rigid Gas Permeable

While not as popular as soft contact lenses, rigid gas permeable contacts are more durable and resistant to deposit buildup, and generally offer clearer, crisper vision than soft contact lenses as well as excellent oxygen permeability.

Ortho-K

Orthokeratology, commonly known as Ortho-K, utilizes custom-crafted rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses to reshape the cornea, functioning similarly to how dental braces align teeth for improved function. These specialized lenses modify the surface of the eye to precisely focus light, offering corrected vision. Designed to be worn overnight, Ortho-K lenses ensure that the vision correction benefits last throughout the day. To maintain these results, it is crucial to use the lenses consistently as prescribed.
