How to Correctly Put On Contact Lenses?

Contact lenses are prescription medical devices. Even if you just want to purchase cosmetic contact lenses that change your eye color, you will still need an eye exam and a prescription from an eye doctor. The same applies to costume or theatrical contact lenses.

Putting in contact lenses for the first time can be a little scary if you don't know what you're doing. Don't worry though — once you get the hang of it, putting in your contacts will be simple and painless.

Here are the basic steps for putting in contact lenses:

  1. Start by washing your hands with soap and water, and dry them with a lint-free towel.

  2. Take out the contact lens from its container using clean hands.

  3. Hold the lens between your thumb and forefinger, and place it on the tip of your index finger.

  4. Gently pull down your lower lid with the middle finger of the hand that's holding the lens.

  5. Use your other hand to hold the upper lid up, and use your index finger to place the lens on the white of your eye.

  6. Once the lens is on your eye, release both lids, and look up, down, and to the side to make sure the lens is centered on your eye.

  7. Blink a few times to help the lens settle into place.

  8. Repeat the same process for the other eye.

It's important to note that there are some variations depending on the type of lens you are wearing, such as daily disposables, extended wear or colored contacts, but the basic steps are the same. It's always recommended to follow the instructions given by your eye care practitioner and the lens manufacturers.

If you're new to wearing contact lenses, it may take a bit of practice to get used to the feel of the lens on your eye. If you experience any discomfort or have trouble getting the lens in or out, it's best to seek the advice of your eye doctor.
